Our Mission

The mission of Fundraising With 5Ks (EIN 81-3569351) is to help provide food and education scholarships for those less fortunate.

 

Fundraising with 5Ks, a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization was created after hearing the many stories from our grandparents and first-hand visits in 2013 and again in 2017 about the poor people in the Philippines.  There are people who go days without food and children who do not attend school because they do not have any money to afford it. The job pool is very limited in their rural area. In the small town of Cuenca, Batangas, most of the town lives in impoverished huts that have dirt floors and roofs made from scrap metal, some huts dating back to World War II. Others live in unfinished cement block houses with no running water or electricity and many with no windows, only a 4’ x 8’ plywood sheet covering the window opening.  

 

As second generation Asian Americans, we take countless luxuries for granted in a first world country. We did not go through the same struggles our family went through in poverty stricken Asian countries. By using the many advantages we have in the US, we want to give back to the people and culture that shaped us into who we are today.

Past Fundraising and Giving Events

The Inaugural Ahoy For Pinoy 5K Fun Run fundraising event was held last July 2016.  Through the generous donations of the community, friends, and family, raised $2,500 in proceeds for food, school supplies, and educational scholarships for grade school and high school children.  All while enjoying the sunrise and a beautiful run on the beach.

 

The 2nd annual Ahoy for Pinoy was held in July 2017. The $5,000 raised from the event went to another food drive for senior citizens in Cuenca Batangas, creating hygiene packs for kindergarten-age students, supplying the local pre-school with new chairs and tables, and providing 11 students full academic scholarships.

The 2018 Event

Ahoy for Pinoy is a 5k Run/Walk that will take place at Paradise Beach Park starting boardwalk. The 5K run/walk will start at 7:00 am so we can enjoy the sunrise. If you are not able to join us for the event, still consider donating for a wonderful cause.

The 2018 Goal

Our goal is to raise another $5,000 in 2018.  This year’s race proceeds will be focused on providing academic scholarships for several more hard-working students in the Cuenca, Batangas area that might not otherwise be able to work their way towards long term success.  

 

We have opportunities for corporate and individual sponsorships, along with runners’ entry fees to help reach our goal. The levels of sponsorship are listed below.  Sponsors who donate prior to June 30, 2018 will be recognized on the runner’s shirts. Every sponsors will be recognized on our Facebook community and event pages, as well as, Instagram #AhoyForPinoy2018.
